Some Recent Gigs: quotes, notes, & excerpts
General Electric
New Hampshire Association of Retirees
Yoken’s Conference
Center, Portsmouth, New Hampshire
“You really did
your homework and it showed. Absolutely wonderful entertainment.”
David Cousineau, vice-president
They say timing is everything and
this one couldn’t have been better. It just happened that retired GE chairman
Jack Welch was all over the news in the days leading up to this gig, and did we
have fun! An amazingly large and enthusiastic audience, lots of jokes about
downsizing, stock run-ups, and the lifestyles of the retired and famous.
Thanks, David, for having the “light bulb” over your head saying. “The Irish
Music Guy at the annual GENHAR luncheon? We’ll bring that good thing to life!”
Ogunquit
Playhouse Theatre Guild Annual Meeting
Dunaway Center, Ogunquit, Maine
"What
a versatile and talented person! Is there anything you can't play?? You are
obviously musically endowed but also witty and intelligent which was a perfect
compliment to your audience that evening. The Board is working diligently to
reach out to our valued members and treat them to something special...and you
certainly helped us do just that....Thank you
for your wonderful entertainment." Patti Levenson,
President
“I drove by the Playhouse
today. I saw the cupola and weathervane, the flagpoles that fly the colorful
banners, the walls enclosing a whole world of theatre magic, the stage, lights,
the seats where audiences have been gifted with the excitement, passion,
insight, respite from their cares, the light cast on the world by this wonderful
theatre for almost 75 years. What I really couldn’t see just driving by was the
foundation, the support beams, the underpinnings that hold the whole thing up.
But I knew they were there. Much like yourselves: out of the spotlight, but
absolutely essential to the whole.”
Medway
Community Bank Fall Tour Luncheon
Bull Run Restaurant, Shirley, Mass.
"I always,
always look forward to seeing your shows. It is amazing how much material you
have and your motivation to make people happy is genuine and refreshing. Thank
you!"
Diane Callen.
The Bull Run is a justly renowned destination for entertainment in central
Mass., in operation since 1735 (!) and a great place to perform. The
independent, small-town, socially conscious bank that I performed for there is
proof the art of good corporate citizenship is alive and well in Medway, Mass.
From programs in schools teaching kids financial literacy to a strong culture of
employee volunteerism in the community, this little bank was fun to research and
perform for. Diane Callen from Daytrip Tours made the call for this one. Thanks,
Diane. I’m sure we’ll do more!

Krempel
Foundation for Brain Injury,
Community Campus Portsmouth,
NH
"What a
GREAT performance today...I had no idea how talented you are (or funny) -- I
loved the harp playing especially! I just wanted to say quickly, again, what a
fantastic job you did. They truly loved you!!"
Indebtedly yours, Tammy
I should really thank you for the chance to honor a group for whom imperishable
courage, inspiration and joy are the stuff of daily life. Your members, families
and staff opened their hearts to me and it was a gig I’ll never forget. “No
matter how great our losses and how deeply we feel them, we finally come to the
place where we realize how much of great value remains and rightfully celebrate
it.”
New England Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives
Annual Conference Jonathan’s,
Ogunquit, Maine
“I’d recommend you to anyone, and plan on booking you again in the future.”
Chris
Cooney, President
This
event was only three weeks after the infamous May floods, just as the host
Greater York Region Chamber was wrapping up a massive mobilization of regional
volunteer power to literally bail out the devastated York Beach business
district in time to open for Memorial Weekend. Between honoring these local
heroes andproving beyond doubt that the job these executives do is completely
impossible in the best of circumstances, we had an evening of fun,, toasts and
good-natured abuse a la the Irish Music Guy . “For those brave and hardy souls
who set sail into the unknown waters of entrepreneurship, you are their beacon,
their compass, and of course, also the ones who occasionally get a bilge bucket
dumped on their head.”
Int’l Right of
Way Assoc. N.E. Chapter Annual Dinner
Eastland Park Hotel, Portland, Maine.
"It's a
tough task to find an entertainer that everyone enjoys. We had the first
function I've been to where every person had a good time. The show did what
music is supposed to do: bring people closer together." John Roberts
I had never heard of the
right-of-way profession until I got the call for this gig. I guess I figured
that all public utilities, roads, communication infrastructure, etc. just
appeared out of nowhere. It turns out to be an utterly fascinating profession
with a bunch of really smart people who dedicate themselves to reconciling in a
fair way the eternal conflict between individual rights and the common good. My
research for the event led me into, among other things, the surprisingly
democratic treatment of right-of-way issues in Brehon Law, the legal code of the
ancient Celts, as well as a program underway in Ireland to restore medieval
pilgrimage paths. Who Knows what Celtic Connections may linger in your
organization’s background!
Essex County
Beekeepers Assoc.
Second Congregational Church, Beverly, Mass
“Everyone was
truly amazed. Thanks for our most fun dinner yet.”
Chris Delaney
Again, I can’t believe how much I
learn doing these special programs. It turns out beekeeping is a noble and
ancient art, with a rich heritage of literature. There was so much great
information the program pretty much wrote itself. Quotes from famous beekeepers
in history, bad puns galore, and the unique privilege of meeting Joe Kingsbury,
a man in his 70s who not only knows how many references to beekeeping can be
found in the works of Shakespeare, but who can name them all. My favorite quote
I found was from Jonathan Swift, ‘”It is the beekeeper who with honey and wax
provides us with two of God’s noblest creations—sweetness and light.” Thanks,
Chris for booking me!
